Within easy striking distance of Ottawa, but outside the 50 kilometre checklist circle, are many exciting birding sites. Presented here are brief site guides and directions from Ottawa for some of the better of these locations. All of the sites included here are within 4 hours drive and can be done in a day trip. Admittedly, the spots farther away might require an early start as a day trip, and might be better birded as an overnight trip. Some sites are worth spending an entire weekend birding.
