        Independent Directions to this Site: The Rapides-des-Joachims are about 3 hours northwest of Ottawa by car. Take Highway 417 west, then continue west as it becomes Highway 17. Drive 215 kilometres from Ottawa to Highway 635 at Rolphton. Turn right or north onto 635 and drive 4 km to Rapides-des-Joachims overlook.

         Site Description and Birding Information: The Rapides-des-Joachims of the Ottawa River near Rolphton are a favourite spot for Outaouais birders to check for late fall and winter waterfowl. As the river stays open, some Common Goldeneye and Common Mergansers winter here. Bald Eagle is also regular in winter.

         Rare birds reported from Rapides-des-Joachims include Harelquin Duck and Barrow's Goldeneye.
