NeilyWorld  Birding Ottawa - Southeast - Rideau River East Side

         Independent Directions to this Site: From Highway 416 take exit 42 (Dilworth Road southwest) 1.0 km to Regional 5 (North Gower Road). Turn left or southeast onto it and drive 5.7 km to Leeds & Grenville 44 at Beckett's Landing. Turn left or southeast onto 44 and go 1.0 km (across the Rideau River) to River Road. Turn right or southwest onto River Road and proceed 5.5 km to Actons Corners Road / River Road. Turn right or northwest onto it and follow it as it wends southwest as River Road again 5.8 km to the turnoff into Burritt's Rapids. Turn right or northwest, just before the turnoff, into the parking area for the next site on this route, Burritts Rapids.

         Rideau River East Side Route Directions: From Murphy's Drain, continue southwest on River Road 0.4 km to Actons Corners Road / River Road. Turn right or northwest onto it and follow it as it wends southwest as River Road again 5.8 km to the turnoff into Burritt's Rapids. Turn right or northwest, just before the turnoff, into the parking area for the next site on this route, Burritts Rapids.

         Site Description and Birding Information: This site is just outside the edge of the Ottawa Checklist Circle, you will have to look northeast to see inside the circle. But it's beautiful, historic and worth a stop for a picnic, rest or a quick birding check, especially during migration.

        Rideau River East Side Route Directions: This is the last site along this linear route. You may, however, cross the bridges at Burritts Rapids and join the Marlborough Forest Loop or do the Rideau River West Side in reverse. The closest sites are Brassils Creek at Paden Road and SW of Paden Road in the former and Rideau River Provincial Park in the latter. To return to Ottawa, return 0.5 km to Leeds & Grenville 23. Turn right or southeast and go 2.8 km to Leeds & Grenville 43. Turn left or northeast onto it and drive 13.6 km to Highway 416 (exit 34), just beyond Kemptville. Proceed north on 416 for 44 km to reach the junction with Highway 417 in Ottawa.
