Map of the Klondike Road West Area
Site Description and Birding Information: The extension of Klondike Road to the southwest of its maintained portion has a major league gate to try to discourage entry by vehicles, ostensibly due to fire hazard. The roadbed continues beyond the gate into a large cattail marsh, with lots of snags at the edges; and beyond that into the forest. The water in the marsh is sometimes fairly deep over the roadway, boots are a good idea. The track goes straight into the Marlborough Forest for at least 4.4 km, with various branching trails. One of these, 1.4 km in, on the left, heads southeast and in 1.6 km reaches the Roger Stevens Drive - Trail 13-6 site.
