Site Description and Birding Information: Grandview Road is a 1.7 km dead end street that goes along the Ottawa River and backs on undeveloped greenbelt land. The first of several access points along the river is Nesbitt Street (0.2 km in Grandview). Go 0.3 km to its end for a view of Crystal Bay. This spot has a good view of the bay but your birding will have to be done from the car or street as there is no other public access. Watch for diving ducks, loons and grebes.
Back on Grandview, there are three other public access lanes on the river side from which it may be scanned for waterfowl, especially of the diving variety. These are especially good for scoters in the fall. Another access looks out over Shirley's Bay at the far end of Grandview.

It is a beautiful and quiet street and many of the folks who live there have feeders and fruiting trees. So in winter there is usually a good selection of finches and many times waxwings. Because of its location along the river and the many mature trees, it can be interesting during migration.

About 0.1 km before the end of Grandview a side street called Hastings Street goes off to the southwest. It deadends in a loop in 0.3 km. You can park along this loop and bird the adjacent scrubland to the southeast or the woodland along the river to the west. The trail you encounter here is discussed more comprehensively in the Carling Avenue Trail section.
Ottawa River West: Ontario Route Directions: From the northwest end of Grandview Road, return along it southeast 1.7 km to Carling Avenue. Turn right or northwest onto Carling and go 0.9 km to the parking lot for the next site, Carling Avenue Trail.
