Site Description and Birding Information: The gardens here are worth looking at for their own sake, but the area is also very attractive to birds, especially during migration. Foot trails meander through the gardens and woodland adjacent them, and on the other side of the Parkway. Can be exceptional for Ruby-throated Hummingbird in spring some years.
McKay or Hemlock Lake, depending on which map you choose, is worth a quick check for its marshy edge. The maturely wooded slopes above the lake harbour Eastern Screech Owl. There are often good feeding stations in this well-to-do neighbourhood.
Ottawa River West: Ontario Route Directions: From the parking spot across from Acacia Avenue on Hillsdale Road at Rockcliffe Park East, proceed south on Acacia Avenue for 1.2 km to Montrose Avenue. Turn left or east on Montrose and drive 0.2 km to Juliana Road. Turn right or southeast on it and go 0.1 km to Beechwood Avenue. Cross Beechwood Avenue into the western entrance of the Beechwood Cemetery and John Macoun Marsh.
