Site Description and Birding Information: The western portion of Rockcliffe Park (the park, not the village) is a wooded area that has several trails and foot paths. The cliffs are somewhat dangerous in places, just be careful. Any wooded area along the river can be good during migration, this is no exception. Pileated Woodpecker is resident and its workings can be seen throughout the park. The Tea House pavilion, at the first parking lot, provides a beautiful spot to have a picnic amidst a stand of lovely old pines.
Adjacent Rockcliffe Park West is Rideau Hall, the Governor General's residence. Part of the grounds of Rideau Hall have been opened to the public recently. The open parklike environs have footpaths, some tall trees and some shrubbery. Worth a brief check in migration.
Ottawa River West: Ontario Route Directions: From the parking lot on Tea House Road, continue around on that one-way street to Sussex Drive, either 0.3 or 0.8 km, depending on which parking lot you used. Turn left or north onto it and follow it, as it becomes the Rockcliffe Parkway, for 1.6 km to Hillsdale Road. Turn right or east on Hillsdale and proceed 0.3 km to park above the NCC Rockeries at our next site on this route, Rockcliffe Park East.
