Dave Chamberlain and Larry Neily played eight matches and Dave had a solid win with a 10-6 margin in match points and a 36-28 score in round point. He also won the crokinole derby, scoring 40 to Larry's 36. Both players were a little rusty after not having touched a checker since last May in Larry's case and perhaps even earlier in Dave's. Larry's release problem was still there, perhaps worse. Dave, on the other hand, was pretty deadly on his 20 shots. This was a major difference in the matches.
An interesting, but really quite unexplanable (and probably meaningless) pattern, shows up in the round scoring. In 1st rounds Dave beat Larry 15-1; in 2nd rounds 11-5. But in 3rd and 4th rounds, Larry won 10-6 and 12-4. A curious linear pattern, with Dave having a 15-11-6-4 and Larry a 1-5-10-12. Since one match followed another, there seem only two possible explanations. The likeliest is that the small sample just fell out that way, and more matches would have evened out the numbers. The other is that Dave was just trying to be nice to Larry, and eased off in the later rounds (not very damn likely).
A few exceptional shots were made, but also a lot of really sloppy misses. Both players agreed that we should be practicing more and hope others will get out next time.
