Ottawa Crokinole Club

         Matt Brown, Damon Loomer and Larry Neily managed to get together last night for a crokinole match. A warm thank you to our gracious host Damon Loomer.

         We played three round (or should I say triangular) robins, using the standard format of 4 rounds per match. I have totalled match results as well as round point totals, and added percentages.

         As you can see from the results below, it was a hard fought evening. Larry beat Matt, Matt beat Damon and Larry and Damon tied. Looking more closely at the totals, you will see Damon had a bit of an off night, winning only one match, tying two and losing three (for 33.3%). Larry and Matt each won 3, tied one and lost 2 (for 58.3%).

         Scanning the round point totals reveals a curious discrepancy from the match results; Larry was the clear winner here with 60.4% (29-19), while Matt, who was even in matches only had 47.9% (23-25). Damon trailed at 41.7% (20-28). The small number of games accounts for most of this - it would even out as the sample size increased. If the first round robin 8-0 result for Larry over Matt had been 4-4, Matt would have won the round point count and match percentage both alone. Had it been 5-3 for Larry, he and Larry would have been tied in both categories. That indicates how close it really was. It also indicates that Matt made very efficient use of his winning rounds.

         The crokinole count was also very close, Larry had a slight edge with 22 to Damon's 18 and Matt's 17.
