The Ottawa Crokinole Club hosted the Eastern Ontario Crokinole Challenge (EOCC) on Oct. 15, 2011. This was the third year for this highlight for Eastern Ontario crokinolers. It is basically an invitational shoot, organized by teams from Eastern Ontario. As in the first two years, the Quinte (Belleville) team won the shot, while our Ottawa team came a close second for the third year running.
The Quinte (Belleville) team, made up of Dave Brown, Len Chard, Louis Gauthier, Peter Tarle, was augmented by local player Andrew Loomer (son of Damon) to make five players a side. Peterborough had to bow out due to weakened interest this year and while Kingston was supposed to replace them, they cancelled on short notice. That left only the Ottawa and Quinte teams, so we went with 5 players a side.
A round robin was played in both the AM and PM, with a lunch break between. Hot shot Louis Gauthier had both the high point total and the most 20's shot for the day.
Thanks to Haley Chapman and the seniors recreation centre where she works, we had the use of the hall at 2576 Carling Avenue. It turned out to be a perfect choice. Thanks also to Peter Tarle for the use of his new timer program, that made time-keeping a breeze.
This is a day the Ottawa Club looks forward to each year to meet our counterparts from farther south in good competition. Being the most north-easterly of the lot, we seldom get the opportunity. Thanks for coming and we'll see you in Belleville next year.
